His director was killed at least 50 hippos and other large animals with Antrax poisoning in the oldest national park in Africa.
Photos shared by the Virunga National Park in the Democratic Republic of Congo, show the immovable animals floating along the Undina River. Park officials say they began to appear last week for the first time.
The exact cause of poisoning is not known, but the tests confirmed the existence of ants.
The park director Emmanuel de Merode said the work continues to use and buried the animals to restore and prevent further spread, but it was difficult because there was no excavator.
“It’s hard because of lack of logistics,” said Reuters news agency.
“We have tools to limit the spread … bury them with a caustic soda.”
The river runs in Lake Edward, one of the great lakes of Africa, where the more dead animals are locally.
