Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has completed a historic visit to South Africa, signaling an improvement in tension relations between the two nations.
The visit celebrated a diplomatic progress for the Ukrainian leader in Africa for the leader of Ukraine for the leader of Russia.
“I am confident that Russia will be annoyed by the visit, but I do not think it can do a lot about it,” said Steven Gruzd Thinking Talk of the Institute of International Relations.
However, Russia forced Zelensky to announce the fact that the visit returned home immediately after meeting with the head of the visit with Kiril Ramaphosa in Kiev of Ukraine.
The South African leader said the bonds between the two people of the visit were “once again confirmed,” Zelenski’s visit was first in 33 years by the head of Ukraine.
In 2023, in addition to a short parking in Cape Verde, this was the first visit of Zelenski to Africa since I was the President of Ukraine in 2019.
Ukraine caught diplomatic significance of African states, including many regional power in South Africa – in 2022, Russia’s full occupation of its territory.
“Ukraine led the continent in terms of foreign policy, but in the last three years, the embassies have doubled between 10 and 20,” Mr. Gruzd said.
“But in a very crowded space – Russia, China, Turkey and the United Arab Emirates, all try to increase the effects in Africa.”
Zelenski’s visit to South Africa was especially important, because Ukraine’s relations with the United States – His main supplier – President Donald Trump in January.
He briefly eliminated his military assistance, denied Zelenksy as a “dictator” and blamed Ukraine who was in charge of war.
“Ukraine is not only in Europe for international levels – not only in Europe. The battles are not only in the battlefield and the world’s public opinion courts in the world,” he said.
South African President Cyril Ramaphosa was equally important for the visit, because his country was under heavy pressure from the Trump management.
Mr Gudz said, “Everyone is looking for a new friend,” he said.
Ramaphosa, as an attempt to increase Zelensky’s visits to the peacekeeper, said he strives to reach the “comprehensive peace” of his talks.
South African leader Zelenski’s visit to Putin also spent a telephone conversation.
“We both have approved strong bilateral relations between our relevant countries” Ramaphosa said in an article in X.
“We decided to work together against a peaceful settlement of the Russian-Ukrainian conflict,” he said.
Ramaphosa first attempted to lead a delegation in 2023, in 2023, and a delegation of African leaders in Kiev and Moscow to end the conflict.
After the initiative, South Africa, after the Joe Biden administration of the United States, Russia and China came to the conflict as he listened to a unique neutrality.
After Washington, the relations were deteriorated after the ambassador to Pretoria It is charged in South Africa in providing weapons and ammunition to Russia.
Then Ramaphosa has appointed a request to investigate the lawsuit. No evidence was found to back up the ambassador’s lawsuit, but the relations between South Africa and the Biden’s leadership was intense.
South Africa’s relations with Russia, which is with Putin, which pushed Zelensky to agree with the Russian leader.
However, Ramaphosa’s government rejected because the Trump’s connection to South Africa is called the International Justice Court (ICJ) and “unfair and immoral practices” because he called “unfair and immoral experiences.”
Prof. Zaroni had to ensure that South Africa’s negotiations with Ramaphosa’s Zelensky’s TRUMP leadership did not hurt the attempts to correct relations.
“South Africa will want to explain to the efforts of peace and not in competition with the role (US).”
Ramaphosa announced that he spoke to Trump on the conflict in Ukraine on Thursday.
He also seized the opportunity to discuss relations between South Africa and the United States, and Trump said that Trump has agreed to meet soon.
This would be the first meeting since the return of the Trump’s office, and Ramaphosa will hope that the US-South African relations are returning to the road.
At the beginning of this month, Trump announced 30% tariff to South African goods, although later, the hike took a time for 90 days later.
Ramaphosa will hope that the talks will cause its position to soften its position, because so high tariffs would be a big blow to the South African economy.
Zelensky and Ramaphosa’s talks also focused on strengthening trade relations with Ukraine, the South African economy had a crisis, low growth and high unemployment.
“Any trading volume, no matter how small, is critical to South Africa,” he said.
“Southern Africa and financial systems can be a gateway to Africa,” Prof.
If this happens, this is in a new chapter in Ukrainian-African relations, although it is due to Russia.
“Both Russia and Ukraine are the largest exporter from grain to Africa. He needs both African. The parties cannot be expected,” he said.
