Clown in a Cornfield’s Director on Making Meaningful (but Still Gruesome) Horror Movies

Name Eli Craig Can ring immediately, but all the genre fans know Tucker & dealee vs pish-RraiQ’s 2010 horror comedy About A Pair Of Good ‘Boys Who Accidentally Get Pegged As Killers, in A Movie That Pokes Great Fun at Every Cabin-in-The-Woods Slasher Trope Imaginable. CRAIG’s religious classic status is about to shoot the latest candidate theaters: Clown in a corn fieldA tale of a fairy tale set in a small Midwestern city with terror … Well, look at the title.

IO9, Craig prefers horror stories to weave clowns, corn areas, comedy and why all the surprisingly deep topics below all the spills.

Cheryl Eddy, IO9: Clown in a corn field There is some funny liner (and a funny title), but it’s simpler in Subsverive. How did you approach to find the right tone while in the steering wheel in a less comedy-forward direction than your previous movies?

Eli Craig: I always try to surprise people, I guess and starting the title – inverted and surprising people. This film also has these emotional elements that are deeper than the header, but also offers a film tone. I like to make movies that are deep in a kind and at the same time do not take themselves seriously. The title was interested in me; I had seen a movie called Minority both the clown and corn. I thought it was time to put these two elements together now.

This film has a comedy, but it’s really like a comedy of horror movement for me. I broke the moments of the comedy and fell from horror and movement that they almost do not stand on their own, so they do not go to each other. And this was a conscious decision because I really love moving movies and people do not want me to think like a really funny horror man. But I think I can still think of me [that way] A little, so we’ll see.

IO9: The clowns are a horrible stamp that is very loved, but Clown in a corn fieldFrender has this additional layer of corporate mascots. How did you bring both of these elements to prepare the character we see in the film?

Craig: In the 1930s, I love the rear stand of Frender, who is a corporate mascot, which is the 40s and “in the 1940s and” in the 190s and “40s and” 40s and “50s. We wanted to prepare a clown, a kind of happy lucky, but more deteriorated over the years. For me there is this metaphor for America. This movie is very American. This is based on this small town in Missouri, which has a boom due to corn syrup in the 1950s, and now became kind of useless.

We wanted to imitate a type of clown. The anger, which caused so much economic difficulty, is built inside the clown’s bad grin. This is a lot of movies related to this generation division and some anger of the little descendants from Frender is really clear.

IO9: I will ask about the generation cavity we see in the film. You previously mentioned that the film was more important to have more than people who killed people. Why was it important to make sure a foundation will be?

Craig: I’m always looking for something deeper for me. I am a thoughtful, deep person in a strange way. With Tucker & DaleMaybe one of 10 people, “Oh Wow, it’s really a movie about class and social stratification.” I love the absurdity with deep topics. I always loved the existential philosophy and an Absurd Theater. If I could double-combine and combine two, a fun movie you can twice and think about a minute, about things that are deeper than this movie are deeper than the surface “- every time my goal.

IO9: There is a kind of old technological / new technological theme to go in the film – children who make youtube videos do not understand the old people in the city; There is also an everlasting of the WiFi or cell service, the main character learns to control the rod turn, etc. Was the original reaction to the rotating phone scene?

Craig: Yes, it was really. As I always know how to use the new technology of older generation and how to use old technology, I thought it in this film and do not know how to use old technology. All this is the things I come together as they move together.

As for the reaction to the phone, I realized that it was so much, I wrote something about it, but I realized how it would be organic. Do they not only feel like natural and joke? Because I want to play all of my jokes as a very true reaction and do not take a funny line to tell someone in a script.

So Janet and Katie Douglas, Katie Douglas, Katie Douglas, when I escaped there, I was like, “Try to work on the phone only.” And they have the meaning, so there is a little improvisation and a little awaiting it to not understand it. So it just goes out very natural and real.

IO9: We talked about the clowns. However, corn areas have a long and reported history in horror. What do you think is a single creepy thing in a corn? And what is the biggest problem that comes with shooting?

Craig: Well, a creepy thing that is in a corn area is a longer growth of your head. You can be lost in a corn area for about 30 seconds. I first hit a scene, just one night, next to Minority In a corn area, there was a crew member who walked to the bathroom and never came back. They lost only one kind of sort. I also looked like a corn stock.

Thus, when we passed the corn, we could be rear and nominated with the same corn as it does not seem to be damaged. And we would pass, corn, we would hurt a part, and then lying in this series and passed another part. And all this is the most difficult part of those who are dealing with a lot. One is that corn is a really sharp kind. There are these abrasive edges for this. Thus, when the actors crossed the full sprint, they can slide with their hands and corn small bits can get their eyes, shells and objects. So there’s a joke there [Verity Marks’ character] Ronnie’s “OW, it hurts this corn!” As we are pulled, people “OW, this corn hurts!”

I just wanted to put this in a funny way. And it’s muddy and there’s air; Sometimes it was like a minus 10 or 20 degrees because we were shooting in Winnipeg. So there are all of these and bugs – it flins there!

People sometimes look at the Hollywood like this bunch in similar Prima Dresses, and they feed. But everyone in this film was so harsh, because it is four in the morning, it is a minus 10 degrees, and cut all his body with corn. If you run from Muck filling the lower parts of your boots; You can’t really get a traction because all the mud sticks to the bottom of your shoes. So everyone was so hardcore. You would be surprised.

io9: the Clown in a corn field Based on the two sequences of your film’s book – do you think to try a conclusion?

Craig: I read the second book before hitting this and I removed a tie from this movie [went] to the second book. And then, when someone writes three good books and is a number, only the man loves Cesare as the author, and it is excited to think about what the next one can come.

IO9: Awesome, maybe a crossover with Tucker and Dale?

Craig: I know-Tucker & Dale vs clown in a corn area. [Laughs] I think there are many opportunities. To get a chance to make more movies, I had to grow up from my career from the world of comedy. So hopefully this will see that I am more skilled than just one thing. And then maybe I’ll do Tucker & Dale 2. We’ll see.

IO9: I hope this happens!

Craig: Maybe I understand my first feature movie and last feature will be my film, Tucker & Dale 2And we will all be the old man who goes on – “Activity” is the old man who goes out! And Taker and Dale [will both be] Older people go with a continuation. [Laughs.] Or you know, who knows, who knows – if this movie is good, it will help to make more movies. So look!
