This month ago, in the conference of play developers in San Francisco, I received a chance to sit with Katamari’s Diarphas, Wattam and many other silly and healthy games Keita Takahashi. Q: What was the inspiration behind the concept of a young man in a T?
Takahashi: It’s not inspired, but I had an idea. I just wanted to make a simpler game. Then after finishing Wattam, the next opinion was trying to control the arms of the main character – catch or shoot or shoot or shoot or do something, simply a very simple Warioware-game type.
But I thought it was dumb; It is not interesting for me; A game that is so boring. But at once, the player thought he did not include anything; It will be fun. Then I’m more inspired than this point.

Why is music a great component of your game?
Takahashi: Yes, I want to say that the music, of course, is super special for me. That is a game designer at the moment. I need [use a] PC or console and I need power. You also need a monitor. I need a roof. And i need a couch to play someone’s game and it makes them happy or enjoy [it]. But we do not need music, such fancy equipment. If you are a vocalist you can simply sing. And then if you guitar, just read the song, play music and make people happy and [feel] nice.
I always want this ability. I am a kind of shy; I don’t have it. This skill always makes me think, oh, the music is so great. I want this item in my game [which] It would be very useful for people to get more of my game.
Have you ever thought about making a rhythm game?
Takahashi: It’s not yet, perhaps.
Crankin time travel adventure.
You have worked on some unique platforms like Crankin’s time travel adventure. Can you talk about it a little or talk about where or what you want to do?
Takahashi: Oh, did you play my game from Playdate?
Yes.
Takahashi: Oh, really. You finished?
I don’t think I’m done with me.
Takahashi: (Laughs) I think nobody finished this game.
Yes, I know that people complained that it was very difficult. Yes, I know because I like the Playdate, the entrance is unique. I don’t think it’s super, super unique, because it was perhaps the Playstation 2 cycle [a] Controller, you can twist in the middle or something. Also, the PC mouse is the same entry. I love the concept of the device and that it is super limited to what makes it special: only white and black screen, and CPU is super weak.
And this has given me a restriction to think of designing [Crankin’s Time Travel Adventure]It’s a very good thing as a fun problem. If the console is super strong then I can do anything. This would be longer than the development period, it would be two or three times more, which is not so good. I hope the console does not improve, [and that we] Keep Playstation 2-period style.
What can you expect in a T for your previous games fans?
Takahashi: I know that my game for some people seems super or unique. Then they try to prevent my game, because it seems very unique. I just want people to try this game because it’s not so unique.

Takahashi: Yes, of course, yes. Japan is the type of country with many problems for young people. I don’t know why I was insulted. Maybe I was a little fat but not a little: I was a big. It was a really hard time. Of course, I did not want to go to school as a young man. But for some reason I could survive this difficult time, and I also think I was a little lesson from this bad experience. This lesson has kept me, a kind of pleasure for people.
I think I was thinking, this was the thing I wanted to put in this game – very rough and still not almost clear; Also, I want to play all the game [to understand] – We must focus on younger generations. We don’t care about young people right now. For the next generation game developers. I am currently in adults – very big. I just thought about myself, what to do, what to do, what I want to do. I didn’t think about the next generation.
I was shocked when a girl said, “I don’t want to be a baby because it is so risky for the surroundings.” When I heard this news, I realized that I did nothing on earth. I will try to reduce garbage or use less electricity or not to drive too much. But that girl just punched me. I think I need to do something for the younger generation, you need to be a voice. Part of this game is the subject of this game.
