The plane is a Hercules C-130, super impressive. You come to this small bus and you see this terrible aircraft and enter the back. Then you sit next to each other in this longitudinal seats. Then a seven-hour trip without the toilet, a little snack, a lot of voices around you, a lot of sound sitting until you just see a little Antarctica.
You see this beautiful ice shelves from the little windows there. The first thing you see when you go out is only ice everywhere. You are a really new one for this environment and sometimes feel a bit of being on another planet.
There is an Italian station there and we had to stay in one day. But what we learn very fast, we say in French, There is no forecast in Antarctica“There is no forecast in Antarctica” because the weather is superfaining. So instead of staying one night, we stayed almost a week.
This station is only a material; It is not intended to host people and anyone there is an obstacle to others without entering. It is a real material problem for people working there, so they want us to leave as soon as possible. But the weather is so unpredictable that simply pick up a plane and go inside. The weather needs to wait until it is almost stable and the pilot says, “I’m ready to fly,” it has the last word.
I still had a problem problem and trying to connect to the Internet. There was like the Internet of ’90’s years, beep. I tried to get in and finally, perhaps after two or three hours ago, I was a double checking, because it was clearly, there was no phone service. Therefore, I could not get my data due to this double verification.
Finally, we got a plane. This is a BASLER BT-67 aircraft from Canada to fly within Canadian in Antarctica and returns to Canada at the end of the season. This plane tour took four hours. This is an under-pressure plane. You are sure to wear all your clothes because it is about to be ready to go out in the Consortia, for minus 30. We were superferrible.
The first thing after the concorder was landed, this feeling of dizziness was Vertigo. When I come, what I came there is that you are 3200 meters above sea level, so you feel a little. After four hours in this small plane, you just do not see the white and anything else, you don’t get concordia.
You see the station from a distance. That station seems so small, because there is nothing around – there are no mountains, there is nothing. And it’s less Work in the stomachAs we said like butterflies, “Wow, this will be my house for a year.” The crew, who spent the Conordia Station and a year and now left the station, waited for us, waiting for us and waited us very hot. Sometimes they had the inside of the station because we were afraid of high altitude disease. They want to make sure no one is hard to carry something hard. We said to us: “Be calm for the next days.”
The station is made of two talls of 18 faces for each tower. Basically white, with a little orange and this is. Move through the tunnel between two tower. You pick up your boots and leave all the items there. It’s pretty small. Then you can go to the left with a “quiet castle”. There are dormitories, laboratories and hospitals. It’s three floors. The middle floor is dormitories and the upper floor laboratories. It is called “quiet castle” to stay calm. Then we go to the right side of the other tower and the entrance. There are technical work. The second floor has a video room for movies and sports rooms. On the living room, there is a dining area and kitchen.
You made the tour of your new house in five minutes. Super impressive because you think, “Someone had to build it anywhere. Someone had to take first steps.” And it’s just incredible. Therefore, many people go with anything to Antarctica. We are coming here and have this building to protect this building from this environment.
This is how it is like this. We saw many pictures of Antarctica and probably read many books, but you have never been in the center of Antarctica that is never different. There is no life – there is no bird, there is no tree – it’s not anything, there’s nothing but ice and wind.
