Niger Military leaders will nationalize uranium firm Somaïr

Nigerin Military Junta says that this will nationalize the local Uranus, which has the most recent escalation between the two countries.

Somaïr, Niger is managed by the French company Orano, which blames several “irresponsible movements”.

Since the seizes the government in 2023, Niger’s military leaders want to maintain more local control of the country’s mineral wealth and moved themselves from Russia, former colonial power, to Russia.

Niger is the world’s seventh largest uranium manufacturer and has the highest level ores in Africa.

“This nationalization will allow the company to be healthier and more sustainable, as a result, the result will allow the optimal flavor of the wealth from mining resources by Nigeria,” he said.

Orano has not commented yet.

The company operating in Niger for decades, 63% of Somaïr, but last year the military took control of the company’s operation.

According to Reuters news agency, Orano, belonging to the French state, has launched legal measures against Niger.

Niger gained independence from France in 1960, and the former colonial power was able to provide exclusive access to Niger’s uranium supply through various agreements.

Analysts say this is seen by many of this as a symbol of sustainable dominance.

However, any uncertainty about the future of the mining sector also celebrates hundreds of work, as well as export earnings.
