Jean Vertonghen – One of the most respected players in Belgium also announced that he would retire from professional football at the end of the current season.
The 37-year-old defender, who has a significant career in about two decades and playing the best years in Tottenham, will play the best years in Tottenham.
Reflecting the decision, Vertonghen shared his views on moving away from the game.
He said: “In recent weeks, this is clear for me for me that it will be my latest games. It’s not an easy decision, but it’s right.
“I tried to teach myself as the player I want to prepare and be physically for exercise and matches.
“Only to my friends and friends, but to myself. So I will stop after this season.”

Vertonghen’s career was nothing unusual. 220 for the Dutch giants began his vocational journey with Ajax.
His talent and management took him to the Premier League, where 315 matches were successful in Tottenham Hotspur.
A two-season stint with the Portuguese club, before returning to Belgium in 2022, and followed Anderlecht before connecting. Since then, it has been dressed in the captain’s crab for about three seasons and plays 77 matches.
Outside the club football, Vertonghen’s influence on the Belgian national team was a history. With 157 lids on behalf, it holds a record as the most closed player Belgium. His contributions were instrumental in shaping the future of the present and red devils.
As the career approaches late May, Vertonghen remains true to give them all in the last extension of the season.
He added: “I will all give us all for the last eleven games, and I hope I will live a few more with my friends and my teammates.
“I am very proud of what I can live and what I get. I thank everyone that supported me from the bottom of my heart.”
